Luke Stevens is a prospect whose size and pedigree have helped to elevate his ranking within Central Scouting. The Duxbury, Mass. resident endured an injury that hampered some of his draft season at Noble & Greenough.
The question is whether Stevens truly possesses that raw talent that some scouts see when they see his size or if he is just another big body that projects to be a grinder.
In viewings of Nobles this past winter, Stevens seemed to lack using his physical tools to his advantage on a consistent basis. Whether or not that was his injury holding him back or some other reason, it's hard to tell.
Stevens' strength will always be his ability to win battles on the board, grind and kill penalties. He's going to have to be a fourth line, physical-type player to make it at the next level. He has a scoring touch at times, but that's not what he projects at the next level.
Stevens should hear his name called sometime in the fifth or sixth round on Saturday. An organization will surely jump at the chance to let a son of a former NHLer develop and with his size and raw physical tools, there will be a NHL team ready to jump.
