Lucas Michaud is an intriguing prospect as there is a wide scope of views on the potential ceiling of the University of Maine commit. A native of South Portland, Michaud climbed 24 spots from the mid-term to final rankings put out by NHL Central Scouting.
Michaud isn't a flashy player, but he does a lot of things nicely away from the puck and away from the scoring areas. He's rugged and strong on his skates. He wins a lot of battles along the boards and is difficult to knock off the puck.
He gets shots off quickly and has a fairly accurate shot, but he projects as more of a grinder at the professional level. He's a player that would have to work hard along the boards, play gritty and bring energy to have a place in the pro game.
At this observer's most recent viewing of Michaud, he played his typical strong game away from the puck and did some nice things, but didn't do much to truly stand out.
Michaud, who had 22 goals and 33 assists in 49 USPHL games this season, will reportedly join the Black Bears in the fall. His style of play certainly fits well into the game plan that Red Gendron and his staff are trying to formulate in Orono.
