Bay State Breakers '95 goaltender Rob McGovern has verbally committed to the University of Maine for this fall. The USPHL rookie is a Thayer Academy alum who was ranked by NHL Central Scouting last season before going undrafted.
McGovern, ranked 25th at the midterm for the 2014 NHL Draft, is a big goaltender who takes up a lot of space and coverage between the pipes. In his first season of junior hockey he had a .931 save percentage, second best in the USPHL, for David McCauley's Breakers club.
McGovern played for former NHLer and Boston University Terrier Tony Amonte at Thayer, a Braintree, Mass. prep school.
Excited to announce my commitment to Maine University. Thank you to all my family, friends and coaches who helped me along the way #GoMaine
