The Rivers to UConn pipeline continues. A year after standout Miles Gendron, a 2014 NHL Draft selection of the Ottawa Senators, chose the Huskies, a former teammate has opted to verbally commit to Mike Cavanaugh's program.
'98 defenseman Michael Young, one of the best young blue liners in prep hockey, has committed to UConn for the 2017-18 season. A Medford, Mass. native, Young has five goals and 14 assists in 21 games played for Shawn McEachern's team.
Young is a big-bodied defenseman who is good at both ends of the ice. He's really come into his own over the past year, but he's shown some promise for a few years. A sixth round selection of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the 2014 USHL Futures Draft, he played at Rivers as an eighth grader.
