The USPHL Winter Showcase kicked off today at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro with Premier Division, Elite Division and Empire Division games. The 16U and 18U divisions begin Friday. In addition to all the USPHL teams that will be in town, there are some Tier 1 midget teams that should be fun to watch for college coaches and scouts in the area.

South Shore Kings defenseman John Marino and Portland Jr. Pirates forward Lucas Michaud have both been ranked by NHL Central Scouting in the organization's preliminary rankings. Marino, a Yale recruit, is listed as a 'B' player while Michaud, a Maine commit, is listed as a 'C' player.

This observer will be there throughout the weekend, taking in the action. The full schedule of games for the 2015 USPHL Winter Showcase can be found here.
