Minnesota picked up a verbal commitment from Muskegon(USHL) goalie Eric Schierhorn today. Schierhorn made the announcement via Twitter:
Excited to announce my commitment to the University of Minnesota! Thanks to everyone who helped!
— Eric Schierhorn (@Eschierhorn29) January 21, 2015
Schierhorn is expected to enroll at Minnesota next season and gives the Gophers a little more flexibility in the post-Adam Wilcox era, whether that comes next season or the season after. The Gopher previously had a commitment from goalie Logan Halladay, but Halladay has struggled in his rookie season in the USHL, causing some question of if he could handle starting goalie duties for the Gophers.
Schierhorn has played well for the Lumberjacks in his second USHL season, putting up a 2.54 GAA and .923 save percentage.
