The Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL announced today that 1996-born defenseman William Lagesson has committed to UMass-Amherst for next season:

Lagesson is a native of Sweden and represented Sweden at the recent World Junior Championships. He was selected in the fourth round, 91st overall by the Edmonton Oilers in last summer's NHL Draft.

Lagesson has good size, listed at 6'2" 198 lbs., and is known as a very physical defensive defenseman that is comfortable on his own end of the ice. He should be a huge benefit to a UMass team that currently ranks dead-last in the NCAA in team defense, allowing 4.26 goals per game.
