Springfield Cathedral keeps on putting up double digits while Malden Catholic hasn't allowed a goal since Dec. 27. With BC High losing two in a row and some Middlesex League teams proving their worth, there is some shakeup in this week's SB Nation Massachusetts High School Hockey Power Rankings.
|1. Springfield Cathedral||8-0-2||1||When the Panthers show up, there is little opposing teams can do to stop their high flying offense. Brian Foley's team has scored 11 goals in two of its last three games. Cathedral takes on a down St. John's Shrewsbury team before stepping out of the state Saturday against Bishop Hendricken (RI).|
|2. Malden Catholic||6-0-0||3||The Lancers haven't allowed a goal since the first round of the Christie Serino Christmas Classic on Dec. 27. That's four consecutive shutouts for the goaltending tandem of Alex Reissis and Kyle Casey. Three of the four games were against Catholic Conference foes and the other against Austin Prep. St. John's and Xaverian are on the docket for John McLean's team this week.|
|3. Xaverian||8-1-0||5||Dave Spinale's team wanted to prove it was much better than how it performed on New Year's Eve against Malden Catholic. The Hawks have rattled off three consecutive wins including a big 2-0 shutout of BC High. Tim Sweeney and Jon Beniers are carrying the offense while Aidan Murphy is probably the next best goaltender to Cathedral's Keith Petruzzelli.|
|4. Austin Prep||7-1-0||4||The Cougars aren't in the same class as Cathedral or MC, but Louis Finocchiaro's team is not far behind. Eric MacAdams is leading the way offensively, but freshman goaltender Dylan Regan has performed admirably since taking over the starting duties. The defense, despite lacking name recognition, has been much better than advertised in the preseason.|
|5. BC High||6-2-1||2||The Eagles are hitting an early season slump with back-to-back losses to Malden Catholic and Xaverian. John Flaherty's team has struggled to find consistency. BC High will look to get back in the win column Thursday at Arlington Catholic and Saturday morning at home against St. John's.|
|6. St. John's Prep||6-2-0||6||Kristian Hanson's team gets another crack at a top team with Tuesday night's clash at undefeated Malden Catholic. The line of Billy Falter, Kyle Hentosh and Kyle Lynch have received much of the attention, but the senior line came up big against Matignon. Tyler Scearbo had four goals while Teddy McNamara had a goal and five assists. The Eagles hit the road for two tough games this week, MC Tuesday and BC High Saturday.|
|7. Central Catholic||7-3-0||7||Since a lackadaisical 3-1 loss at Austin Prep, Mike Jankowski's team has a nice victory over Hingham and walloped Billerica. The next four games should fall into the win column, but a Jan. 24 game against Springfield Cathedral looms large for the Raiders.|
|8. Arlington Catholic||6-1-2||8||Dan Shine's team bounced back from a tough loss against Austin Prep with an easy victory over Bishop Fenwick. The Cougars have a big chance to show they belong in the Super 8 with a Thursday night road contest at struggling BC High.|
|9. Woburn||5-1-1||--||In one loss to St. John's Prep, the Tanners allowed five goals. In the team's other six games, it has allowed just seven goals. Sophomore goaltender Sam Best ('98) is a big reason for that. Up front, forwards Evan MacDonald, Timmy Doherty and Justin Alves have led the way for Jim Duran's team. Up next is a test Wednesday against defending state champion Reading at O'Brien Rink.|
|10. Burlington||5-1-1||The Red Devils haven't lost since nearly a month ago in the second game of the season. Bob Conceison's team is led by a super junior class including '98 forward Anthony Nikolopoulos. After a game against a down Wakefield squad on Wednesday, Burlington has a big test against hard charging Winchester on Saturday night.|
