Mike Cavanaugh and his staff at the University of Connecticut continue to stockpile elite talent for the future. The latest addition to the recruiting pipeline is '97 forward Tage Thompson of the US National Team Development Program.
The Oyster Bay, NY native is the son of Bridgeport Sound Tigers head coach Brent. UConn will play several games this season at the home arena of the Sound Tigers, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders.
Coming off a strong season with the PAL Jr. Islanders in the USPHL 16U Division, Thompson's stock skyrocketed at the USA Hockey Select 17 Festival out in Amherst, NY earlier this summer. He had four goals and three assists in five games played at the camp.
Thompson will play the upcoming season for the USNTDP U-18 Team in Ann Arbor before playing a year of juniors and arriving at UConn in the fall of 2016.
