Jamie Armstrong Commits to Northeastern

Matt Dewkett

Bishop Hendricken(RI) HS '98-born forward Jamie Armstrong announced via Twitter on Thursday that he has verbally committed to play college hockey at Northeastern:

Armstrong is the son of St. Louis Blues director of amateur scouting Bill Armstrong. This past spring, Jamie was invited to skate at the NTDP Final 40 Tryout camp, which brought together most of the best '98-born players in the country.

He was selected in the second round of the USHL Futures Draft by the Muskegon Lumberjacks and has been placed on their affiliate list. He was also selected in the sixth round of the QMJHL Draft by Acadie-Bathurst.

SBN College Hockey's Jeff Cox saw Armstrong play over the summer at the USA Hockey Select 16 Festival and ranked him the 19th best forward at the camp. Here was his write-up on Armstrong:

19. Jamie Armstrong (#14 Grey) 6-1/180 NV River Rats/Avon Old Farms - He's a player who I believe didn't have his best tournament, possibly due to fatigue of all the hockey he's played this spring, including a USHL camp. He's a strong power forward who has the potential to grow even more. He's fast and physical and is the type of player who can win one-on-one battles.
