Shattuck-St. Mary's 1998-born defenseman Kenny Johnson has committed to play his college hockey at Michigan.Johnson is perhaps most instantly recognizable as the younger brother of former Wolverine star and current Columbus Blue Jacket Jack Johnson.
Johnson isn't considered in the same stratosphere of talent as his older brother was when Jack became one of the first 15-year-olds to commit to play college hockey in 2002, but the younger Johnson is a respectable player in his own right. Listed at 6'1" 200 lbs., Johnson is an imposing, physical defender. He's not known as a big offensive producer from the blueline, scoring just 6 goals and 13 assists in 47 games last season with the Shattuck-St. Mary's U16 team, but did accrue 171 penalty minutes on the season.
Johnson was selected in the 6th round of this spring's USHL Futures Draft by the Chicago Steel. He is expected to return to Shattuck-St. Mary's for next season.
