College Hockey Inc.'s recruiting announced on Thursday morning that Chicago Mission '99 defenseman Joey Keane has verbally committed to Miami:
Joey Keane (Chicago Mission U16) has committed to Miami University for 2017-2018 @MiamiOH_Hockey— Hockey Commitments (@hockeycommits) October 9, 2014
Keane is a right shooting defenseman listed at 5-11 165 lbs. that plays for the outstanding Chicago Mission U16 program.
We mentioned Keane as a potential candidate to attend next spring's NTDP evaluation camp after watching him play at this September's NAHL Showcase:
Joey Keane-D-Chicago Mission-Reminds me a lot of teammate Ryan Carlson last year. Not a flashy, high-end talent, but plays a very solid, quiet game, and should develop into a reliable player down the road.
Keane also showed more more offensive capabilities at this summer's Select 15 Festival:
31. Joey Keane (#4 Grey) 5-11/180 Chicago Mission - A good offensive-minded defenseman who had a hard shot from the point, his defensive game could use some improvement, but he should be a strong college prospect down the line.
It's a very nice commitment for Miami, picking up a strong defenseman playing for one of the nation's best U16 teams. Keane joins teammated Cole Coskey in committing to the RedHawks, while Mission teammates Dominic Mersch(Wisconsin), Sean Dhooghe(Ohio State), and Graham Slaggert(Notre Dame) have also already made college commitments.
