Holy Cross is continuing its recent hot streak on the recruiting trail, picking up '95 forward Jay Mackie of the Victoria Grizzlies. The Kingston, Ontario native, in his second season in the BCHL, has good vision and awareness of the ice, according to a scout who has seen him play. He projects as more of a setup man at the collegiate level.
Mackie, a former standout for Canadian prep power St. Andrew's College, is slated to enroll at Holy Cross next fall. Through 14 games Mackie is tied for second on the Grizzlies in scoring with five goals and eight assists.
Holy Cross has been picking up some good local talent since Dave Berard too over the helm this offseason, but this is one of the new staff's best out-of-region pickups to date. The Crusaders, 1-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Atlantic Hockey, return to action this weekend with a home-and-home series against AHA foe Sacred Heart.
