UAF picked up a skilled forward from Alberta who plays in the BCHL when Ambrose Firkus selected the Nanooks as his college destination.

West Kelowna Warriors forward Ambrose Firkus has committed to Alaska-Fairbanks. The native of Irma, Alberta played midget hockey in Alberta and a few games in the AJHL before traveling west to the BCHL.

The 1994-born Firkus scored 11 goals and nine assists in his rookie season in the BCHL last season. He will play for the Warriors again this season before heading to UAF for the 2014-15 season. UAF head coach Dallas Ferguson is entering his sixth season behind the bench at his alma mater.
