Green Bay Gamblers defenseman Matthew Purmal has committed to St. Lawrence University. The junior hockey journeyman from Merrill, Wis. is a big stay-at-home blue liner that has a +5 plus/minus rating to go along with 17 penalty minutes in 12 games played in the USHL this season.
Purmal, a '94, played last season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The year before he spent plying his trade with the Wichita Falls Wildcats in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Purmal played midget hockey with the Marquette Electricians. He is expected to begin playing for head coach Greg Carvel at SLU in the fall.
