Boston University has received a commitment from Shattuck-St. Mary's forward Chase Phelps. Phelps is a '96-born forward, originally listed from Eagan, Minnesota, and is a strong prospect for this summer's upcoming NHL Draft.
So far this season, Phelps has scored 5 goals and 14 assists for 19 points in 15 games with Shattuck-St. Mary's this season. Last year, as a high school junior playing on Shattuck-St. Mary's top Prep squad, Phelps registered 23-37-60 scoring line in 56 games. This past summer, he skated with the United States' Select Under-18 team at the Ivan Hlinka tournament.
Phelps is a taller forward, standing roughly 6'1" 180 lbs, though he tends to play more of a skill game that relying on brute physicality. A heavy snap shot with a quick release makes him a dangerous scoring threat from many areas of the ice, and his high assist totals show an ability to use his teammates effectively as well. NHL Central Scouting gave Phelps a 'C' rating in their preliminary rankings, though it seems highly likely that Phelps will rise up draft boards after a strong start to the season.
Phelps is the second player from Shattuck-St. Mary's to commit to BU, after teammate Clayton Keller pledged to the Terriers in late August.
