University of Maine head coach Red Gendron has received a commitment from Connecticut Oilers forward Joe Widmar. The Northbrook, Ill. native has serious upside, and could be a steal for the Black Bears.
Widmar spent last season in the USHL playing for the Chicago Steel and Indiana Ice. As a younger player in that league, the former Capital District Selects skater struggled at times.
He is a big-bodied right-shot '95 who has raw potential. He can skate very well for a player of his size and is a high-intensity player. He has eight goals and 13 assists in 14 games played this season in the Eastern Hockey League.
