Multiple sources are now reporting that Michigan has withdrawn from this year’s NCAA Tournament field just hours before the team was scheduled to take the ice against Minnesota Duluth in their Fargo regional semifinal due to a positive Covid test. Michigan sent out a release confirming the news.
Michigan joins St. Lawrence, who won an automatic berth into the field but withdrew before the field was officially announced, and Notre Dame, who was forced to withdraw from the tournament yesterday, as the third team forced out of the field due to a positive Covid test.
Per NCAA rules, Michigan’s game against Minnesota Duluth is ruled a ‘no contest’ and Minnesota Duluth automatically advances to the Fargo regional championship, where they will await the winner of the other semifinal between North Dakota and American International.
