Penn State will be the site of NHL preseason hockey for the first time.
The Nittany Lions host a game between the Buffalo Sabres and Minnesota Wild at Pegula Arena on September 26 at 7 p.m. ET. Both Buffalo and Penn State share a connection in Terry Pegula. Before buying the Sabres, Pegula donated $102 million in 2010 to start up a men's and women's hockey program, along with the namesake arena.
Originally the game was slated to be played in Rochester (where the Sabres' AHL affiliate plays), however, citing inadequate facilities the team moved it to State College.
State of the art Pegula Arena opened in October 2013.
Penn State played to a nation-leading 105.4% capacity in the 6,014 seat arena last season and renewed 95% of season tickets for the upcoming season. Those fans will be seeing a college team which added 3 more freshmen Tuesday to a now 11 person class.
