Once committed to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Tyler Sheehy had the best weekend of his young college hockey career at Minnesota against the team.

Sheehy was named the Big Ten's first star of the week Tuesday for his performance this weekend. The freshman from Burnsville, MN had four points (3G-1A) in a sweep at home over the Buckeyes, including his first career 2 goal game on Saturday.

"Chemistry on my line right now is going well," said Sheehy, who played most of the weekend with Justin Kloos and Connor Reilly, to SB Nation College Hockey after Saturday's 5-4 overtime win. "We've been establishing some pressure down low. I've been able to find some pucks around the net so I've been pretty lucky."

It is Sheehy's first weekly award. He's the second Minnesota freshman to earn the Big Ten first star of the week. Goaltender Eric Schierhorn was also named one after the Gophers (6-7-0, 2-0-0-0 Big Ten) swept Northeastern in late October.

Michigan forward Justin Selman was named this week's Big Ten second star and Wisconsin forward Ryan Wagner was named the third star.

The Big Ten names three stars on a weekly basis regardless of position and year. There are no "Rookie" or "Defenseman" of the weeks.

Minnesota commit Rem Pitlick named USHL Forward of the Week

Sheehy is not the only player with Minnesota ties to earn a weekly honor.

Minnesota commit Rem Pitlick (Muskegon Lumberjacks/Plymouth, MN) was named the USHL forward of the week after putting up 9 points (4G-5A) in two games this weekend. The Lumberjacks have gotten a return on its investment, trading for Pitlick before the season began from Waterloo after he spent the past three years at Shattuck-St. Mary's. He has had multi-goal games each of the past three games.

Pitlick, who signed a letter of intent last month, leads the USHL in points with 28. There is a maroon and gold presence on top of the USHL scoreboard between him and fellow Gopher commit defenseman Ryan Zuhlsdorf (Sioux City/Edina, MN) leading the league in assists (tied with 17).
