After retiring from an 11-year, 551-game career as an NHL defenseman, Mike Komisarek recently re-enrolled at the University of Michigan to complete his degree. Komisarek skated two years for the Wolverines in 00-01 and 01-02, before signing a professional contract with the Montreal Canadiens, who selected him seventh overall in the 2001 NHL Draft.
On Friday, the school announced that Komisarek will also be helping out the Michigan hockey program as an undergraduate assistant. In the school's press release, Komisarek said:
"Coach Berenson and the Michigan Hockey program set a foundation for me as a person and as a player. This is an opportunity to get my degree and help the team out and share my experiences. There are very few opportunities in life that are truly a win-win situation, and this is definitely one of them."
