With a new season comes new awards. This new season sees - at least for the first weekend - some old names in the honors.

Minnesota sophomore forward Hudson Fasching (Buffalo Sabres draft pick), Ohio State senior forward Tanner Fritz and Penn State junior goalie Matthew Skoff were named the Big Ten Three Stars for the week ending October 13th. All three were honored at least once last season.

Minnesota's Fasching earned the first 1st Star in addition named Ice Breaker MVP. The Burnsville, MN native scored in both games of the season-opening tournament in South Bend, Indiana as the top-ranked Gophers defeated both Minnesota-Duluth and RPI to take home the title.

Fritz, chosen over Buckeyes teammate and college hockey's first hat trick maker Anthony Greco, had 4 points in Ohio State's 5-4 overtime win Friday against then-#3 Providence. Ohio State's captain is being counted on for offense after OSU lost Ryan Dzingel and Max McCormick in the offseason.

Skoff was named the third star this week following the Nittany Lions tying 2-2 and routing Connecticut 7-1 in a two-game home series. He stopped 54 of 57 shots, further cementing the #1 goalie spot for Guy Gadowsky's Penn State team.
