Michigan Defeats Wisconsin 3-1 on Friday Night

The Wolverines have righted the ship after a rough start to their second half.

Playing at home for the first time in 51 days, Michigan picked up a 3-1 victory over Wisconsin on Friday night to create a tie for second place in the Big Ten standings.

Tyler Motte got the scoring started for Michigan when he fought through a check to redirect a Boo Nieves into the net at 13:10 of the first period. A minute and 20 seconds later, Alex Guptill would extend the lead when he split the Badger defense and beat Wisconsin goalie Joel Rumpel low to the stick side on a semi-breakaway.

Zach Hyman would extend Michigan's lead again at 12:05 of the second period. Wisconsin called timeout after Hyman's goal, and would temporarily regroup, with a goal by Jedd Soleway 1:11 after Hyman's goal.

But thanks to a stellar effort from Michigan goalie Zach Nagelvoort, the Badgers could get no closer. Nagelvoort was credited with 26 saves in the win, including stopping three Wisconsin breakaways.

The win moves Michigan to 13-6-2 overall on the season, while Wisconsin drops to 14-8-1, including 1-6-0 away from the Kohl Center this year.
