Niagara Fires Dave Burkholder

Niagara University has fired Dave Burkholder as the head coach of the school’s hockey program, as first reported by Mike McMahon of College Hockey News.

Burkholder went 247-279-68 in 16 seasons as the Purple Eagles’ bench boss. The 1984 RIT alum guided Niagara to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2004, 2008 and 2013. His teams won three regular season titles and two playoff crowns during his time at the school.

However, the Purple Eagles have suffered through three consecutive single-digit win seasons. The 2016-17 team went 5-31-3, but won just three games during the regular season before upsetting RIT in the first round of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament.
