Mercyhurst freshman goalie Adam Carlson has signed a contract with the Washington Capitals, forgoing his final three years of college eligibility.

Carlson is an incredible story of perseverance. He was cut from his high school team in Edina, Minnesota his senior year and played Junior Gold hockey to complete his high school career. After graduating from high school, he played for the Tier III Steele County Blades of the MnJHL and played well enough to earn an opportunity the next season in the NAHL with the Coulee Region Chill. Two strong years in LaCrosse earned him a scholarship offer to Mercyhurst, where he put up a 2.85 goals against average and .919 save percentage this season for the Lakers.

Carlson's entry-level contract is for two years and is set to begin next season. Carlson will report to the Caps AHL affiliate in Hershey, PA for the rest of this season on an ATO before his contract starts next year.
