Niagara senior forward Ryan Murphy led the Purple Eagles in scoring last season with a scoring line of 15-21-36 in 36 games, but did not play in Niagara's season-opening series against Clarkson last weekend for what was described as "undisclosed personal reasons".
The reason for his absence became apparent on Tuesday, when the Buffalo News reported that Murphy has been suspended until January 13th, following an arrest for driving while intoxicated in New York on September 29th. Murphy was involved in a two-car accident, and was cited for DWI, among other traffic violations after refusing breath and blood tests. Murphy is expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
Murphy has already missed two games, and will miss 18 more before being eligible to return on January 17th, in a game against Holy Cross.
