A week after impressing at the San Jose Sharks prospect camp, North Dakota senior forward Jasper Weatherby has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Sharks.
Weatherby, a native of Oregon who grew up as a Sharks fan, was drafted by the Sharks out of the BCHL in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. Listed at 6-3 206 lbs., Weatherby is a power forward capable of playing center that plays a smart, heavy game. He showed consistent growth throughout his three years in Grand Forks, scoring five points as a rookie, to 18 in his sophomore season, to doubling his career total with 24 points as a junior.
His biggest impact, however, may have come off the ice. Weatherby has always been interested in social justice initiatives, and this past season was a founding member and the NCHC representative for the group College Hockey for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, which aims to make positive cultural change in college hockey.
