RPI announced on Monday that their men’s and women’s hockey programs will not compete during the 2020-2021 season. RPI is a member of the Division III Liberty League, which cancelled all athletics six days ago, in all sports except for men’s and women’s hockey. The hockey programs are members of the D-1 ECAC and had the option to continue their season, but like fellow Liberty League member RIT, the Engineers have opted out of the hockey season as well.
RPI is the ninth men’s program to opt out of the season, joining RIT, the six Ivy League schools that sponsor hockey, and Alaska Anchorage. They are the eighth program on the women’s side, joining RIT and the six Ivies. The ECAC conference is now down to just five members playing this season out of the 12 teams in their league.
