UMass defenseman William Lagesson has signed a three-year entry level contract with the Edmonton Oilers, the team that drafted him in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Draft.
The Göteborg, Sweden native will forgo his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility to start his professional career. The 6-foot-2 blue liner isn’t the best skater, but he makes up for it with his reach and positioning in the defensive end.
Lagesson had two goals and six assists in 36 games played for the Minutemen this winter. In addition to his two years in Amherst, Lagesson has played for Sweden at the World Junior Championships.
