UMass Lowell senior free agent defenseman and team captain Michael Kapla has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the New Jersey Devils. Kapla will report directly to New Jersey and likely make his NHL debut with the Devils this season to burn the first year of his two-year contract.
Kapla paired with Dylan Zink on the River Hawk blue line to form one of the most dynamic, highest-scoring pairs of defensemen in UMass Lowell history. Kapla finished his senior season with a 3-27-30 scoring line 41 games. His offense doesn’t come at the expense of the other end, however. He’s a responsible, two-way defenseman with very strong skating that is good at picking his spots to attack offensively.
Kapla will wear number 32 with the Devils.
