Michigan Tech junior defenseman Matt Roy has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings. Roy was a seventh round selection of the Kings, 194th overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft, following his freshman season with the Huskies.

Roy was one of the top defenseman in the WCHA this season. He notched five goals and 21 assists for 26 points in 42 games for the Huskies. Roy is an intriguing combination of size, listed at 6-1 and a very solid 200 lbs., and offensive abilities. He does an excellent job of creating shooting opportunities from the blue line and makes a solid first pass to create transition opportunities. His biggest challenge at the pro level will be handling faster forwards defensively, but he has upside as a second or third pairing defenseman at the pro level.
