Coyotes Sign Clayton Keller

Matt Dewkett/SB Nation

Boston University freshman forward Clayton Keller has signed a entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes, the team that drafted him seventh overall in the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft.

Multiple sources have confirmed to SB Nation that Keller’s signing will become official later Sunday.

The Swansea, Ill. native finished his freshman season with 21 goals and 24 assists in 31 games played. The Terriers’ leading scorer missed eight games in the first half due to a lower body injury. He was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Year.

The US NTDP alum led the Gold Medal-winning American squad in scoring at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Keller is undersized, but is extremely slick with the puck. His creativity and vision are uncanny in the college game.

BU’s season came to an end Saturday in the NCAA West Regional with a 3-2 loss to Minnesota Duluth. He had a goal and two assists in the two games in Fargo.
