On his coach’s show on Tuesday night, it was announced that Arizona State head coach Greg Powers has signed a contract extension with the school that will extend his contract through 2022.

Powers was head coach of Arizona State’s club hockey team prior to the Sun Devils making the jump to NCAA Division I hockey in 2015-2016, and has been the program’s only head coach since.
In just over two seasons, Powers has accumulated a record of 17-47-7(13-47-5 against Division I opponents), though those struggles are understandable given Arizona State’s quick jump to Division I and the transition to bring their roster up to Division I caliber. The Sun Devils have experienced some success in recruiting that should keep them headed in the right direction.
While Arizona State is now set for the long-term behind the bench, the question of where they will play their home games continue to haunt them. The Sun Devils are still in search of a conference to play in—it was recently reported that they were rebuffed by Hockey East—with the lack of a suitable arena being one of the major hold-ups. In the same interview, Powers said Arizona State was “close” to having an arena deal done, though with no specifics, which has pretty much been the steady state of things since the program was first announced.
