Over the weekend, Shattuck-St. Mary’s U16 forward Makenna Webster became the first female player from the 2002 birth year to make a college commitment when she announced via Twitter that she has verbally committed to play college hockey at Wisconsin.

While it’s strange to see a commitment from a player that won’t even begin the ninth grade until later this week, Webster has already established herself as an impressive prospect. She skated on the top line of the national champion Shattuck-St. Mary’s U16 team which already has a number of players committed to top colleges. She was third on the team in scoring last year with 31-30-61 in 62 games, trailing only linemates sophomore Maggie Connors(69 points) and junior Rebecca Foggia(64 points).

At this past year’s USA Hockey national championships, we wrote this scouting report on Webster:

With her commitment, Webster becomes the first member of the Badgers’ 2020-2021 recruiting class.
