Hobey Hat Trick Finalists Announced

Matt Dewkett

Michigan freshman Kyle Connor, Boston College junior Thatcher Demko and Harvard senior Jimmy Vesey are the three Hobey Hat Trick Finalists. The 2016 Hobey Baker Memorial Award will be presented Friday, April 8 in Tampa, Fla.

Vesey, the only returning finalist, was edged out last season by Boston University freshman Jack Eichel. Vesey, a two-time winner of the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year, had 24 goals and 22 assists in 33 games played this season. A draft pick of the Nashville Predators, he announced he will elect for free agency August 15.

Connor, a Winnipeg Jets prospect, is trying to be the second freshman in a row to win college hockey's top individual award. The Youngstown Phantoms product led NCAA Division I in scoring with 35 goals and 36 assists for 71 points.

Demko is also a finalist for the Mike Richter Award, given to college hockey's top goaltender. The Vancouver Canucks prospect is 27-7-4 with a .936 save percentage.
