Providence College senior defenseman Tom Parisi has signed a two-year entry level contract with the Montreal Canadiens, it was announced Saturday.
The senior from Commack, NY attended the Canadiens' development camp last summer. One of the Friars' co-captains, Parisi had a goal and 15 assists and this season.
Parisi, who was +12 in his final season in a Friar uniform, has terrific hockey sense, makes smart, heady decisions in transition and skates well. He's not overly physical, but has a good stick and good gap control. He has good vision, but lacks a shot.
Parisi and his Providence teammates were eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday in Worcester. The Friars lost, 2-1, to Minnesota Duluth in double overtime. The loss ended Providence's bid for a repeat national championship.
Parisi and his classmates were part of a terrific class that helped rejuvenate the Friars' program. In addition to winning the 2015 NCAA Championship, Providence won 92 games over the four seasons.
