Quinnipiac freshman defenseman Karlis Cukste will play for the Latvian team at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, as first reported by Chip Malafronte of the New Haven Register.

Cukste, a fifth round selection by the San Jose Sharks in the 2015 NHL Draft, has represented his country several times in the past, including last year’s tournament. He has four goals and four assists in 17 games played for the Bobcats.
