World Juniors: Chad Krys is Final US Cut

Team USA announced this morning that they had released Boston University freshman defenseman Chad Krys. Krys was the final cut made by Team USA, as they have now set their 23-man roster for this year’s tournament.

Cutting Krys certainly isn’t as egregious as cutting Alex DeBrincat two days ago. Krys was a returner from last year’s squad, but struggled at the tournament, and more importantly, didn’t play that well after last year’s tournament either.

Keeping Krys on the team likely would have been a better choice than keeping Joe Cecconi, but with smaller playmaking defensemen Adam Fox and Jack Ahcan already filling the puck-moving defenseman role, Krys likely wouldn’t have had much of a role on this team.

Team USA will play their first game December 26th at 3:30EST against Latvia, in a game that can be seen on NHL Network.
