Ever since Arizona State announced that they would play varsity Division I hockey, questions have persisted about where the Sun Devils would play. Their current home arena, Oceanside Arena, seats less than 1000 people, making it too small for a full-time home, while the home arena of the Arizona Coyotes, Gila River Arena, is too big.
Their future plans are beginning to come into focus now, with a report by ESPN's Scott Burnside that the Sun Devils and Arizona Coyotes looking into a joint partnership to build a new facility that both teams could play in, that is 'likely' to happen.
The new arena would solve the Coyotes' current lease problems with the city of Glendale while also providing a new home for the Sun Devil hockey program. Details are expected to be finalized soon, and building the arena is expected to take three years.
