Minnesota Wild Sign Harvard's Stephen Michalek

Matt Dewkett

The Minnesota Wild announced on Monday that they have agreed to terms on two-year entry-level contract with Harvard goalie Stephen Michalek. Michalek was a sixth round draft choice of the Wild in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Michalek posted a .924 save percentage in each of his last two seasons with the Crimson and a 2.24 goals against average in 37 games last year with Harvard. Michalek missed a year of game-time at Harvard after being involved in a widespread academic cheating scandal at Harvard, and had applied to gain that year of eligibility back, but was denied earlier this summer.

Michalek is expected to add depth to the Minnesota goalie pipeline and begin his career with their AHL affiliate in Iowa next season.
