Former NHL head coach and Providence College alum Ron Wilson was named the head coach for the United States' 2016 World Junior Championship entrant.

Wilson has been out of coaching since 2012 when he was let go by the Toronto Maple Leafs. In addition to his time in Toronto, Wilson has also been the head coach of the Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks.

Wilson captained the 1977 Providence College Friars before embarking on a pro career that spanned mostly the minors, but included 177 games in the NHL.
