Harvard Beats Quinnipiac

Harvard took an early 3-2 first period lead on Quinnipiac and clung to it for the final two periods en route to a 5-2 victory with two empty-net goals in the ECAC semifinals.

Quinnipiac came into this game 10th in the Pairwise, though with not much gap between them and the teams directly behind them, while Harvard was 15th, the final at-large spot.

Harvard's win temporarily bumps them up to 12th in the Pairwise, while Quinnipiac temporarily drops to 15th. Obviously a big help to Harvard's at-large chances, and they just need to win tomorrow to secure a bid. We'll have to wait until the day's other results shake out, but Quinnipiac now finds themselves in a dangerous spot in the Pairwise and no longer control their own destiny.

Additionally, Jim Dahl says UMass Lowell now most likely needs to win the Hockey East Tournament to get into the NCAAs, with all their at-large possibilities vanishing.

Also, Minnesota would appear to be out of the tournament if they don't hang on to beat Ohio State.
