Quinnipiac goalie Michael Garteig made a season-high 37 saves as Quinnipiac hung on for a 3-1(ENG) victory over Union to win their ECAC Playoffs quarterfinal series.
This win was huge for Quinnipiac, jumping them from 15th in the Pairwise back to 12th. They're still not safe yet to receive an at-large bid, but it's still a possibility whereas a loss would have most likely been the last game they played this season.
Union's loss clinches that the defending national champions won't return to the NCAA Tournament to defend their title.
Quinnipiac's win is a loss for the other bubble teams surrounding them. The Bobcats jumped over Bowling Green and Minnesota, though the margins between spots 10-14 are incredibly slim right now and will come down to how those teams perform next weekend. Quinnipiac winning essentially adds another horse in the race for those final couple of spots.
