BOSTON -- The first semifinal of the 2015 Beanpot is headed to overtime. Harvard and Boston University are knotted up, 3-3, after regulation.
Cason Hohmann got the Terriers on the board first at 16:50 mark of the first period. He got lost on the backdoor and pushed home an Evan Rodrigues centering feed.
Harvard answered right back with a goal of its own. Kyle Criscuolo finished off a Jimmy Vesey centering feed after the initial rushed was stopped.
The two teams headed to the second period, which ended up being a tale of two halves. The Crimson jumped out to a 3-1 lead on tallies from sophomores Alexander Kerfoot and Sean Malone, two players who returned to the lineup for tonight's game after missing time with injuries. Kerfoot's goal came just 22 seconds into the middle frame and Malone gave Harvard the two-goal cushing with 11:32 to play in the period.
BU stormed back in the latter half of the period. Nick Roberto's breakaway was denied, but Nikolas Olsson's hard forecheck allowed the play to continue. Olsson gathered the puck and fed it out to Roberto in the slot. His shot was stopped, but Olsson swooped in for the goal with 4:26 to play in the middle frame.
Ahti Oksanen sniped one top shelf with 23 seconds to play after picking up a pass from Hohmann in back of the goal line. The goal evened the score heading to the third period.
The two teams skated to a scoreless third period. Harvard senior goaltender Steve Michalek has made 40 saves through regulation while BU goaltender Matt O'Connor has stopped 25 of the 28 shots he's faced.
