Buffalo Sabres acquire rights to Jordan Samuels-Thomas

Justin K. Aller

The Buffalo Sabres acquired the rights to Quinnipiac University alum Jordan Samuels-Thomas on Wednesday evening. The West Hartford, Conn. native was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers, now the Winnipeg Jets, in the 2009 NHL Draft, but it was widely speculated that he would not sign with the organization that drafted him.

Samuels-Thomas is a power forward with a strong presence on the ice. He doesn't have blazing speed, but he can often be found battling in the front of the net and in the corners for loose pucks. He transferred to Quinnipiac after two seasons at Bowling Green. Between the two NCAA schools, he collected 50 goals and 54 assists in his collegiate career.
