Anaheim Ducks Sign Nebraska-Omaha's Jaycob Megna

USA TODAY Sports

The Anaheim Ducks announced on Friday evening that they had signed Nebraska-Omaha junior defenseman Jaycob Megna to a three-year entry-level contract. Megna was selected by the Ducks in the seventh round, 210th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft.

Megna is a 6-6 200 lbs. defenseman that had no goals and 10 assists in 32 games for Nebraska-Omaha this past season, finishing his UNO career with 4 goals and 18 assists for 22 points in 105 games played. His older brother Jayson plays in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.

We had Megna ranked 77th on our list of Top 100 NHL Prospects in the NCAA this past year, based largely on the potential that the huge defenseman showed in his time at UNO. Here's what we had to say about him:

77. Jaycob Megna, Forward, Nebraska-Omaha(Anaheim Ducks)

The brother of Penguins prospect Jayson Megna, Jaycob is a big, athletic defender with enormous potential. He's listed at 6'6" and is a smoother skater than his teammate last year, Tampa Bay's Andrej Sustr.  Megna's feel for the game could stand to improve a bit, but his size allows him to make up for many of those shortcomings.

Megna will likely need some time in the minor leagues before he's ready to make a significant impact at the NHL level, but has a scary amount of potential should he became a smarter, more experienced player.
