The Philadelphia Flyers have announced the signing of 2012 NHL Draft pick and Union junior defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to an entry-level contract. The Most Outstanding Player of the 2014 Frozen Four will report immediately to the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Gostisbehere, a third round selection, was an astonishing +7 in the NCAA Championship game, won by Union College, 7-4, over Minnesota. The Margate, Fla. native is poised with the puck and has a keen sense of awareness on the ice.
An alternate captain for the national champion Dutchmen, Gostisbehere is a tremendous skater and moves extremely well with and without the puck.
After finishing out this season with the Phantoms in their quest for a Calder Cup Playoff trophy, Gostisbehere will head to the Flyers Development Camp this summer and then report to camp in the fall. He is a player who is ready to make the jump to the NHL as soon as next fall.
