PHILADELPHIA -- Through 20 minutes of the first semifinal at the Frozen Four, Union did not look the team that dominated the Bridgeport Regional two weeks ago. The Dutchmen had trouble ramping up the pace, and the Eagles carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
But Ric Bennett's team came out looking like the group the breezed through regional play, thanks in large to its team speed. It paid early dividends, as a Mike Vecchione net-drive stretched the Eagles' defense, and eventually the puck worked its way back to Mat Bodie. The Union captain, who scored in each of the Dutchmen's regional games, and possesses an NHL-caliber shot, knew exactly what to do with it.
The player sprawled out on the ice was Matt Gaudreau, brother of Johnny, who scored the lone goal for BC in the first period. Union has now taken its first lead of the game midway through the second period. Follow the action with our live chat.
