NCAA Hockey Tournament: Shayne Gostisbehere's heroics rob Providence of a goal (video and GIF)

Union is leading Providence 1-0 after the first period, and can thank Shayne Gostisbehere.

Shayne Gostisbehere is one of the top defenseman in the country. The Philadelphia Flyers prospect looks like a bona fide NHL talent, and Providence head coach Nate Leaman, who's going up against Gostisbehere today (and even recruited him to go to Union), called him the Dutchmen's best forward yesterday.

But maybe goaltending is also in Gostisbhere's future.

With his Dutchmen leading the Friars 1-0 Saturday in the NCAA East Regional finals, a scramble in front looked like it might end with Providence finding an equalizer. But the defenseman through his body in front of three shots, including flashing the glove, to keep the Friars off the scoreboard.

A reverse angle just shows how impressive his initial glove save was.

Gostisbehere was credited for five blocked shots in the game's first 20 minutes, many of them probably from that one play. Union is looking to advance to the Frozen Four for the second time in three years, and is on top of Providence after one period.
