New Hampshire's Trevor van Riemsdyk Signs with Chicago Blackhawks

New Hampshire junior defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk has signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. van Riemsdyk, the younger brother of Toronto Maple Leafs forward and fellow UNH alum, James van Riemsdyk, was an undrafted free agent.

Trevor van Riemsdyk came to New Hampshire as a raw, relatively unheralded recruit, but the 6'2" 185 lbs. defender developed nicely in his three years at Durham, and became one of the more highly-sought after free agents in the college game. This past season, van Riemsdyk registered four goals and 19 assists for 23 points in an injury-shortened 26-game season.

van Riemsdyk missed the last 15 games of the season after suffering an ankle injury against Union in a game in January. He is a  smooth-skating, mobile defenseman who needs to be better in his own end to succeed in the NHL. His offensive instincts from the blue line could make him a very valuable power play quarterback for a team down the road
